Para badge, good or bad
Would be pleased if I could get confirmation that this is a good badge or a fake one. It looks OK to me. I am assuming it was a nickel plated brass version, as it has very small remnants of nickel plating, which do not show up in the photos. The dark bits are also probably left over from the former plating.
Thanks Myles |

I'm also of the opinion that this badge could be okay and the crud just makes it look bad! I am not sure this voided crown pattern was produced in Nickle plated Brass/Gm? This is the odd occasion that a badge should be sympathetically cleaned to reveal its true ID!

It was also made in white metal, people always say this is an early badge, however, they were certainly being issued to new members of the regiment in 1945-46.

Andy, yes it was made in plated brass. Note the faint wear on the canopy and right wingtip.
Also made in solid brass without plating but that's a different story. |

Thanks very much for the replies. As the majority are saying its a good one, I think I will be keeping it. From the original photos I thought it was the early brass version but I'm confident that this one was plated. Not sure if I should try to clean it or not though.
Thanks again Myles |

Myles, in my view it's "patina" does not appear to be a natural result of its rich history so I see no problem to clean it.

Hi,
Take a look at this thread; http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ght=Silverwash The silverwash example posted by forum member Silverwash is interesting as it has an easily removed coating. Jack |

A quick clean with nothing more drastic than the application of a nail or tooth brush, some washing up liquid and some hot water should suffice! A quick scrub should return it to it's almost original condition, even more gratifying if you can use "Her in Door's" tooth brush when she's not about, which will make it that more ingratiating when she inevitably moans about your collecting !
