Piers Motley Auction Anodised Lot
Piers Motley's anodised lot which sold today at auction contains a few of the harder to find and desirable a/a badges, but with a final hammer plus commission of approx £345, am I missing something? As an off and on a/a collector, can anyone point out what caused the obvious bidding interest?

I count 77 badges which averages out approx. £4.48 each.
Can see the Berks Yeo arm badge, scarcer monogram Wilts Reg, Dorset Reg… those three alone must be c.£30 each on a dealers site. Even some more common AA’s do appear on some dealers websites now for £6 or 7 each. So that may be the simple explanation provided there’s nothing we are both missing within the lot. |

Hi Luke
The only cap badge that stood out for me was the Loyals - possibly £50 - £60. I estimated £10 - £15 for the Dorset. I'm with you on the Wilts but I would have been cautious without seeing the slider. I did wonder if it was the 94 Berks Yeo Rank Badge that partially drove some of the bidding and it's interesting that you think it would command £30 or so. Even though I have one I had no idea what a dealer might charge. I hear you and I'm probably going to have to revise my estimates upwards on some of the other less scarce badges, even taking into account that 12 or so of the 77 badges were collars. Thanks Mark |

Strange that. I have now seen 3 with the lion very carefully (not snapped off) removed.

It's not a Berks Yeo as they were gold. It is the 1968 Berks TA worn on red backing disc.

Interesting Hampshires, with red highlights. Not seen before.

That looks like the Officers cap badge for the Royal Regiment of Gloucestershire and Hampshire RRGH. Not anodised and they have sold for three figures.

I agree. I think I was informed in a previous thread that it was the 94 (Berkshire Yeomanry) Signals Squadron rank badge (arm badge) in silver ano? I was also under the impression from that thread that they were not issued but privately purchased from the Sub Continent (I can't find the thread). As for their value, I'm clueless. Mine cost me nothing. As for the gold Berkshire Yeomanry Field Reg badge, mine set me back north of £50 (heck!). I recognised we weren't talking this badge. Thanks for the input. I picked one up from Bosleys for less then £30 a few years back. That's not showing off, I'm just surprised that they are fetching three figs. I do remember there was quite a few knocking about when I bought mine, so perhaps supply and demand dictates. Mark |

They were not RSignals until 1969. Prior to that they were part of the C (Berkshire Yeomanry) Squadron, Berkshire and Westminster Dragoons 1961-67. |
