Default Silver Spoon [Lee Metford]

Was actually looking for a Snider or a Lee Enfield type.
Detail looks fair after mild cleaning.
Don't know how to improve it by silver polish / plate without
messing up the gilt part. Any ideas ?
Before and After pics attd.

What a beauty.

Goddards Silver Dip for about 30 seconds, then soap and water.
It will come up like new.

regards

Now that is unique, had never seen one of these before. Did they come with different rifle types?

They certainly do, and they still make them - or at least similar pieces, I came across various silver weapons somewhere the other day but they weren't done as teaspoons, they were set on wooden blocks to be used as desk pieces or paperweights.

It's surprising how long war memorabilia has been on sale for. Certainly since camp followers were banned from scavenging battlefields and probably before it for the toffs.

I can remember a tour guide on the Crimean Battlefield Tour; when we were at the Alma he explained how the mayor of Sevastopol and various generals all had their friends and other interested parties seated just behind their artillery. These spectators were out for a good old jolly watching the Russians knock forty colours of poo out of Britain and her allies. As it turned out they had to run for their lives when the British infantry crested the rise.

No doubt there were local souvenir sellers around that day.
