Default XXV Elgin Infantry

I've had this badge for a few months now. Bought in a lot of misc. brass numerals and buttons. For its size and shape it was mistaken as a button.

1895-1905 Elgin Officer's Cap Badge in gilt and silver. Actually only a partial badge as it would have originally been mounted on an embroidered background (which I assume the moths got long ago)

Still, a really stunning little badge with lovely detail, even if incomplete.

Default The restoration of the XXV Elgin Infantry badge

Just realized I never posted a photo of the complete, restored badge.

In late 2016 I had 'Hand & Lock' in the UK redo the embroidered portion of this Victorian-era Officer's badge. I supplied them with photos and measurements of two complete original examples.

I think they did an amazing job. The finished badge looks quite stunning I think.

Hi Bill,

I'm always on the fence with restorations but in this case I think you made the right decision - stunning well dene.

Cheerio,

Roy

I agree, amazing job and stunning example. Do you have a contemporary photo of an example being worn? I, for one, would be interested in seeing it.

Cheers,
Dan.

Default XXV Elgin Officers Badge in wear.

Dan,

Looking through the Elgin County Archive tonight I found these images from 1906-1912 of the badge in wear.

Also, found in my files a copy of an original that was sold to a member of the Elgin Regt. Association a few years back (ex. Brooker collection). Which is one of the examples I based my restoration on.

And finally a photo from the late Clive Law, show a complete vintage peaked cap.
