The colour of the beret for the SRR is 'Emerald Grey'.

If it helps I can also confirm that back in the early 80's the staybright Jimmy was definately worn by OR's in the SAS beret when serving in 264 Sig Sqn. one of my fellow soldiers who qualifed and returned back for a short while to our unit (can't remember why), also wore the most prestigious item the 264 brown/green lanyard and not the standard blue lanyard of the Royal Signals.

Incidently I always wore on excercises (Unoficially) a solid metal Jimmy with a slider to the rear (not the usual 2 lugs) in my dark blue signals beret with a standard staybright Queens crown (with lug), not sure what period this brass & white metal Jimmy badge was from but I still have it somewhere, saved the Jimmy breaking in cammo nets all the time.

I was at Catterick on training courses between 1987 and 1992 and saw a lot of ORs wearing the standard SAS beret and two piece A/A cap badge of the regiment. Never saw an officer though.

take it from me pal. The normal Jimmy is worn, any of the 2 part including metal and stay brite.
Offrs and Warrant ranks have worn predominantly wired embroidered on dark blue, however wired embrodidered on the beige backing HAS been worn. 100% guaranteed.
Therefore, you can use either for your beret mate.

Officers wear navy blue backed bullion RCS badges ; Other ranks wear the standard 2-piece Jimmy - except on ops. when they wear nothing at all on their beret. I just know that I am going to be challenged on this one ! Regards. David

But ORs beret with no badge on Ops not correct - try no beret at all but huge sideburns....

I seem to recall in the 70's whilst attached to 260 Sqn, the ORs wore a cloth or fabric badge when on exercise. A blue patch with a yellow/gold 'jimmy' but I can't remember if it was printed or stitched, or whether it was issue or private purchase, but being REME we were jealous as we had nothing similar and had to wear our issue AA badges with all the usual conflicts with cam nets!

It sounds just like a trial badge that was on an oval backing. Nothing came of it but one is in the Royal Signal Museum.

To answer your question the beret is worn with the standard 2 part jimmy the officers also had a guilt gold crowned jimmy and they also had a cloth badge, the normal cloth badge was worn by the signals but was going to be introduce to the service to eliminate shine but since the beret was not worn in action did not replace it. Hence the answer 2 part jimmy
