Cool JODHPUR LANCERS MGS

I may be totally wrong, but this badge looks to me like something that has been knocked up by someone in a shed, supposedly worn by officers the quality does not look anything that would have been worn by an officer.

Indian army badges were and still are made by various makers, many local and cast, but officers of the Indian Army generally had badges made that were superior quality, often hallmarked in Great Britain.

This is only an opinion and I would love to see proof of this being an original badge.

This is a made-up shoulder title and a known fake which has been floating around for a good many years.

A made up unit as well ? As far as I know the Jodphur Lancers never had a MG section. - Was this the same collection that had the Gurkha Machine Gun badge? Tim

Hi Tim/BC,
The Jodhpur is definitely made up. Brig Jodha ( who collects Jodhpur items) told me that while researching his book on the Jodhpur Lancers he came across this badge or references to it but there was no such unit that ever existed and the only conclusion therefore was that it was made up. A shame that someone broke up a nice Jodhpur Lancers shoulder title (they come in 2 sizes) to do that.
