Default Indian Corps 1914 - Request

Would anyone be able to post a selection of cavalry badges as worn by the regiments in the Indian Corps in 1914/15 please?

Apologies in advance that I do not have the literature on this subject, which I’m sure answers my request, whilst I do fancy a copy of Sowars & Sepoys it’s hard to get and since I don’t collect this theme the expense is hard for me to justify.

This might give you an overview: The Regiments in 1914

Thanks, but it is only one page of the site linked to in my signature below. Thus everybody can browse there more then just this one.

Not being Luke, but as you can see I am still missing some badges in that list. Either missing or not of the image quality wanted. Thus if there is nothing against adding them in the list, I am interested in those from that famous publication.

Default Regimental Lineages

Henk,

Excellent link and site, well done Sir, will be using it to identify my recently acquired Indian badges.

Regards, Simon.

Thank you Henk that’s very helpful. Do you know are those images of officers badges or other ranks? As always great work and website!

Filling those gaps mentioned by Henk would certainly be helpful Sunil, thank you. Do you have any comment on the images of the badges in the link? I’m aware pre-1920s Indian badges are scarce so therefore I would assume reproduced in significant numbers?

Thanks for the compliments.

I want to stress that I do not collect badges. As can be seen I am interested in lineage and the badges are only to enliven the otherwise very dry tables/charts.

I prefer OR badges above officers one's, but when there is lack of OR's (and I guess that is often the case for Indian Cavalry) I make do with officer's. As can be seen, specialy in this Cavalry-1914 list I had to fall back even to drawings .

I can of course not say much about the authenticy of the badges the images represent. I hope most pictures were token of real ones. OTOH the small size of them (200 pixels high) does not really allow detailed research of them. As said, they are only illustrations going with the lineage, but they often illustrate how the elements of the badges of merged units are combined in a new badge.

Just enjoy the site and I am always open for comment. After all it is human work and errors on all levels, from typos to wrong unit designations can be found. No doubt about that.

That's the lot. Not easy doing it on the cellphone. Ashokis a good friend and im sure he won't mind me sharing a few of the pics, but I will tell him that I've posted it on this forum, where Ashok has many friends.

I got my copy from the author himself during one of his annual visits to Bangalore. I too was hesitant to spend as in Indian rupee terms it's a lot of money. He was kind enough to suggest that I pay for it only after going through it. I must say it's a wonderful work and with lovely colour photos unlike Izzat. Even if you don't collect badges it's a visual delight to just look at the badges! I would say it's a must have for an Indian Army collector and the price is just about what you would pay for a decent white metal badge.
