16th Waikato Rgt. badge
Hi all,
sharing this 16th Waikato Regiment cap badge, which came as part of a small lot, recently added to the collection. Is there a way of determining its vintage? Is it WW1 or could it be later? Regards, Giorgos |

Hi Giorgos,
Earlier badges are of better quality and some would have the J R GAUNT LONDON plaque on back. I think your badge is of more recent manufacture. Cheers, John |

Thanks for your time and your reply, John!
Was this type of badge issued until 1950 or earlier? It also seems rather hard to find online information regarding the history of the Regiment post-WW1, could you possibly point me towards some source(s)? Regards, Giorgos |

I think this badge is often seen with a voided crown so would venture to suggest (and agree with the other post) that this might be a later version.

Thanks for the reply, dumdum!
Is there any doubt about it being period original - and, actually, what period would that be? Are there restrikes of this badge? I have found a thread, in which doubts about a certain type of lugs and the colour of some were expressed. Regards, Giorgos |

A pleasure Giorgos! I think that you are pretty safe with this one as they aren't that uncommon, although they might be in your part of the world.
Someone with a lot more knowledge than myself might be able to give more details as to the date but I would guess that you are looking at a WW2 badge. Cheers! |
