Question EIIR Cypher

Good day gentlemen

What would this have been used for?

Well made brass Queen Elizabeth cypher with a brooch fitting.

Many thanks

James

Hello,

very similar to the Army - Aide-de-Camp (ADC) ERII Epaulette Badge
or Navy Flag Lieutenant ...
Suggest to look in this direction ?

Royal Cypher & Crown (when worn below all badges of rank) as worn by Aides-de-Camp (inc former aides), Honorary Chaplains, Surgeons etc on No1 and 3 Dress Non-Ceremonial. and other orders of dress not mentioned. are normally in Gilt metal. Small sized with lugs for wear on shoulder straps.

You make no mention of size, and the brooch fitting suggests some other usage perhaps in the Royal household?

Thanks for your comments. Size is 35mm high and 35mm wide approx. So similar in size to a small hat badge or WW1 style metal shoulder title. It is brass rather than gilt.

Royal Household connection sounds interesting.

Many thanks for your comments

Anyone want it?

James
