Just to input my tuppence worth here. I have had many badges repaired, mostly by Dave, and am well aware of the loss of patina due to the methods used, however, I have found, that if given a bit of a polish, not on a regular basis, but just a quick once over, the patina tends to look as good as it was eventually. Apart from my most recent batch of repairs, they all pretty much look as they would have done before.
