Latest Wallis & Wallis Catalogue 16th Feb
Is it me or are my expectations too high?
I have just received the W&W catalogue and the only 'pictures' of cap badges is half a 'plate' page i.e. 9 badges in all, and only 4 are British (this doesn't particularly bother me, its the overall numbers that do). Even though there appear to be a lot of nice badges described in the text. Altogether, there is one double sided A4 sheet of colour illustrations. Many years ago I had a subscription and whilst the pictures were all in black and white, the 'good' items were always photographed and the illustrations ran into pages and pages. If I didn't know any better I would almost believe that they are 'going down the tubes'. Whilst they do mention the overall sparseness of lots, there does seem to have been a massive change and I am wondering where the subscription charges are actually going. I certainly won't bother renewing. Rant over, back to photographing badges. |

Consider yourself lucky you can get them to send you one is all I can say. I've been communicating with them a few times over the last couple of years, and have given up.....!

I'd like catalogues too but only to look at the pictures, no pictures so that's me out of the equation too !!!

Ironic considering the last Bosleys postal auction was superb in that you could not only see the descriptions, online, but bid too and there were the pictures on line as well.

I have never had that many dealings with W and W but it is shame that a company that at one time was possibly the foremost Auctioneers of Militaria in the country seems to have sat back and let others take over their position.
The black and white illustrations in the old catalogues of theirs that I have copies of were excellent but things have moved on and they appear to have been left far behind. Now most bidders will expect to see the majority ( if not all ) the lots illustrated and will expect guide prices to be included in catalogues. I wonder if ,after the sale of the Walter Lambert collection, they will ever get another major collection to sell ? These days ( unfortunatly ) if you dont take advantage of modern technology and be as good or better than your competitors your business will go down the pan !!!!! P.B.
