Default Malaysian Army and RMAF signs

Really for entertainment value only - Treasure trove found in Kowloon in 1991. All are 1966 vintage except the Gerak Khas (Grup Gerak Khas - Special Service Group) which operated under that title from 1981. If anyone collects Malaysian insignia, get in touch.

I'll have to double-check when I return to base, but I think it was worn by Overseas Commonwealth Land Forces in the later stages of the Malayan Emergency.

Mike, the white crescent and five stars are not Malaysian, but Singaporean. It was the Mindef HQ formation sleeve patch.

You are of course quite correct - I should have mentioned that. It must have been confusing though when, for a brief period, Singapore was incorporated into Malaysia. As I recall the red/white stars and crescent moon sign was the only sign seen being worn by Singaporean forces in 1965-66.

These cloth formation signs were destined for tailors who would mount them on plastic and sew on four snap-on buttons to the rear.

I have an example of this patch which is embroidered instead of silkscreen printed. These surface every now and then when an old-timer decides to close shop for good.

Default Malaysian buttons

I believe that you're quite updated on Malaysian military insignia and hope that you may be able to help me identify a few buttons from the region.
This lot came recently and believe that they could be mixed civilian and military.

Row 1/1 is probably from either the Kelantan or Kedah Provinces, Row 2/1 is from Kedah and Row 2/5 is likely a prisons button.

Any assistance is much appreciated.

I should like to be able to help, but I regret that all I know about buttons (and metal cap badges) could be written in large block letters on the back of just one of them. Sorry to be so unhelpful.

No worries Mike.
I was just trying. You know how it is when so many items bug you to be identified. Thanks anyway.
