Default Arab Flying Camel, any ideas

Anybody know this one?? Don't think it's an air force as it's fitted with a pin to attach to a Bedouin headress

Hi Eddie, the key is, I think in the crown. IT has me thinking French or Italian.

Cheers,

Greg

Huum, yes it does appear to have an an orb with a cross on top.

I was wondering if the map on the globe was recognisable??

The crown looks European to me.

Hi,

Just a thought. How about Spain’s military forces in the Spanish Sahara, is there
possibly a lead here?

Best regards,

Zob.

Hi Zob

Yes I had thought of that when I was looking at crowns. The only contraindication is that the Arabs that far west don't usually wear Agals and this seems to be designed to pin onto one.

Many years ago my friend Brian Crowe - who was extremely knowledgable on Arab badges - showed me one of these as an unidentified piece so it may just remain a mystery.

Hi Eddie,

Just to throw a bit more confusion at it, I’ve just come across a similar badge “albeit for Taiwan” described on the attached link as a “Combined Operations Breast Badge.”

See Link: (Link Removed)

Regards,

Zob.

Well blow me down. That's identical to mine but with a different star, the map could well be of China and on closer inspection the camel is a dromedary with two humps. Well actually three humps on that version, presumably for army, navy airforce. Amazing.

Three humps? A new species perhaps? Or just easier to keep two riders on?

I think your third hump is the tip of the Camels Wing!

Eddie, that pin does not look as if it is designed for an Agal. The pin is almost horizontal, which would make it very difficult to pin through both ropes of the Agal.

The landmass indeed seems China, the island to the east is Taiwan.

Could the crown be a Maharajah's crown - and could there be an association with the Bikaner Camel Corps? Mike
