Default Irish Constabulary QVC

Hi all,

Is this a QVC Irish Constabulary badge - brass with tabs on an old green backing 51x24mm. Not my area of collecting so will move on, cheers Dean

Dean,

The RIC is not my area of interest but this badge does not look like RIC to me.

This type of design looks far more like that used on undress caps of the London Irish ( 28th Middlesex Volunteer) Rifles such as the Kilmarnock and the Glengarry. I have seen styles with loops and screw posts as fitments. There are various stylistic differences such as in the number of the strings but the aspect ratio and that distinctive joint with the crown are all quite similar. But whether it actually is London Irish I cannot say for sure.

For a more definitive answer on possible RIC use I would advise you contact Peter at https://irishconstabulary.com/

John

Many thanks John I shall pursue that line of thought and also contact Peter. The original owner recalled the badge having numerals with side and it being yeomanry and I initially thought Boer War yeomanry.

It has been suggested as a pouch badge for the RIR or London Irish, cheers Dean

Ah Dean, thanks for mentioning this...

45 Dublin Company, 13 th Bn Imperial Yeomanry.

I should have remembered this, see below from the Irish Sword.

That’s brilliant thanks so much John. I bought it as a Boer War Irish yeomanry badge and then not being able to determine the particular unit I convinced myself it was RIC related. Cheers Dean

Default 45 IY

Dean. The lack on numerals and letters threw me at first. But the fact it has blade fittings kept nagging at me, suggesting cap badge, rather than pouch. Attached is a picture of a complete version. Unfortunately not in my collection.
