Militia/Volunteer Badge. Northumberland
I've been offered this badge by another police collector and would value the input from members as to whether it is a military or police badge. I have my own doubt about it being a police badge.
The badge is in unmarked silver. The size is 85mm x 50mm. The centre features the "Castle" elements from the arms of the Borough/City of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The wording around the garter strap is the "motto" from the arms of Newcastle. The badge appears in a couple of long established police collections and reference books. However, I've found no photographic evidence of its use by Newcastle City Police. Is it a badge once worn by local militia/volunteer units? Your opinions would be welcomed. Dave. This is a repeat of a thread started last Friday which was "lost forever" as a result of a site upgrade. Last edited by altcar73; 22-01-22 at 05:47 PM. |

You are a star mate. Thank you! Also many thanks to Simon for making the suggestion. I will now tell the current owner of the badge that it is NOT police related and that as a result its of no interest to me. The gent concerned is not a member of this forum so consequently I cannot insist that he offers the badge to forum members before offering it elsewhere. I apologise for this as I know that it "irks" members to be pumped for information and then for the recipient of the info. to part with the badge outwith the forum. Dave.
