Just a general observation but should collectors learn how to take photos properly and when they upload them also learn to have them in the correct position?
I never thought it was rocket science to have a photo of an item in the vertical position instead of the horizontal position.

Sometimes the images although the right way up when posted actually appear in the thread on their side.
Seems to happen more with cropped images, I've discovered.

Really? you've had a photo rotated 90° during the upload process?

Yes, a number of times in the past but not recently.
I think they're ones that are taken on a phone and need to be rotated, cropped, saved etc on the phone prior to posting but persist in returning to their original orientation when posted. When it's happened I've commented on the posts that I can't get the images to post the right way up.

I had the same issue Mike. Again like Leigh says it’s phone photos that I’ve cropped it’s happened to.

This may explain:
When editing or resizing this particular image in Windows, we would know to rotate it 90 degrees anti-clockwise, so that when it's uploaded to a website, it would be displayed correctly. ... Since most foreign servers do not observe this Orientation flag, the photo is displayed in its original state (rotated sideways).

Gary

Photos taken by iPhones sometime show up sideways on here yet look ok on my computer.

I think its the way Apple handle images.

Ah.. I see. It's a phone thing. Two step approach then? get them on a PC first and sort them to the correct orientation? Or am I the only one with a PC

I find sometimes taking a picture on my iPhone using portrait (vertical) rather than landscape (horizontal) orientation of the phone results in normal picture orientation when I upload here or other sites such as Facebook.

I use a PC and thought that the problem was the current trend to use a phone for nearly everything. So I did use a phone for an image and when posted it was side ways.

I also mentioned this to one of our members, who then posted his images using a PC and they were fine.

It's a not so smartphone thing!

Talking

Side ways photos drive me mad and I wont try to look at them or make a comment and theres lots of them. However Ive never complained up till now as I still cant post photos to the Forum or any where else,(I think that its the grey hair or a seniors moment) but now that someone else has raised the problem, and its a big one, I will now add my 2 pence worth.

Every day there are sideways photos and I assumed that it was a problem in the program as there were too many for it to be operator error.

Regards

Phil.
