I have had numbers of RFC and RAF badges that have quite a range of toning. I don't doubt the 'bronzed' appearance of Force 136 attributed badge but I follow the logic that even OSD badges if vigorously polished will return to a GM brass base metal rather than copper.

Its only a badge and everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Not toned but bronzed, the RAF with remains of a slider was found under a bush in a garden but not buried.

Hi all,

Continuing with the theme of this thread.

Here are my versions of RAF KC Other Rank Bronze (8.34g) & Copper (9.01g) badges I have in my possession. The Bronze one was sold to me as such.

Also, attached for interest are Bronze & Copper RAF KC WO badges. These both have hexagonal rear fittings.

I assume that both bronze versions would be late WWI era onwards.

Any comments most welcome.

The RAF cap badge on the left is a Marsh repro, see post #11 here.

Personally I don’t like the other one much either.

These are some of my RAF cap badges with sliders & other non-slider badges with a darker tone to them.
I'll be honest, I had never heard of the Marsh fakes until some months back on this forum but it would explain some 'RAF' badge creations I have seen offered for sale in the past & some of these unfortunately (hopefully not all) may be their work too? I just picked these badges up over the years as they looked a bit different to the standard RAF cap badges. I had also heard there was an early RAF cap badge issued but nothing definitive & every day is a school day.
I would be interested to hear what others think of these as being original to start with please.

I think what people forget is that veterans often don't really care about the badges like we do and can lose them / give them to kids to play with etc. Then one day they see a badge at a market and buy it as a memento, and voila! A suddenly obscure yet 'genuine' veteran badge.
As mentioned here many time before, buy the badge, not the story.
