Default Bladed DLI collar badge

Greetings.

Another item from my recently won DNW Gaunt archive Lot.

A brass DLI collar with blades North and South.

Question DLI collar with blades

Hi Brian, any ideas as to why blades have been fitted rather than the more usual loops?

Hi David.

Unfortunately at the moment.....no.

However, I suspect it was something along the lines of an experiment, a prototype or a sample from a rejected idea, or similar. I will try and find out though.

The way I understand it, is that in the Gaunt patterns archives there were all sorts of badges with different or experimental fixing points.

A few weeks back I started a thread in relation to the DLI after a visit to their museum. There were examples of collars with a slider and cap badges with lugs, so perhaps this may have been something that was adopted by the Regiment, but only in very small numbers if it was.

Pure speculation on my part though at the moment.

If I do find out, I shall obviously let you know.

Regards

Brian
