Minefield marker
Hi All
Is this little pennant a minefield marker? It looks like one I saw online somewhere which was listed for quite a hefty price and described as a German item. Is there any way of telling where it came from or are these just generic? I think it was once yellow but very faded now. It is about 10cm across the top and will soon be decorating the bar in my man-cave. Thanks, cheers, Alex Last edited by Alex Rice; 20-03-21 at 09:23 AM. Reason: Spelling. |

I have a few of these, WWII German but I have read that they were also post war East German although I don't know if they continued in production post war or if "old stock" merely continued in use.

A few days ago I was thinking of asking what your bar looked like now (being in the process of setting up a beer shed myself at the moment having decided that the current garage work bench / bar set up was an A & E trip waiting to happen).
You have the old camo net thing going, helmets, guns and bayonets and the like? |

Jerry,
Is spot on. They came in a leather pouch and were attached to thin metal poles I recall 12-2O in a set. German WW2. Mark |

Originally for gas but also used for mines weren't they?

Very nice! I never thought of planting mines near the bar - that would sure cut down on mates drinking all your hooch!!!
When I was in Normandy on a tour with Mark Bando and Donald Burgett when we were traipsing through pastures we referred to cow patties as "minen". So the term mine always brings up that tour. Terry |

A very old joke but the sign DANGER! MINE! would sometimes be graffittoed (sp?) with the "YOURS!"
The other one my dear late Dad used to quote was the WW2 German sign "Zum Understand" that would often gain the the addition of the words..."And zum don't!" |

Sorry to disappoint but my bar isn't laid out like a bunker , it is however still a work in progress... Cheers, Alex |

Nah, I wasn't expecting the whole bunker experience, just a touch of the tin lid and bayonet on the wall, the camouflage net ceiling or outside shade.
That all looks very civilised, I thought the bar was a bit more of a wood shacky beach bar I note the truncheon you have ready for immediate use, if the truncheon doesn't get 'em the lucky horseshoe will? I have truncheons hanging at my old bar, "his and hers" until replaced by PR-24's, the larger mine sign is from BiH as is the skull and crossbones one which is actually a souvenir postcard.
