Default A/A collars

Shown below are a pair of collar badges.

the first has an offset lug to rear and large rose on front
and is, I think, for Prince of Wales' Own Yorkshire Regiment.

the second has a central lug to rear and a small rose.
Is the for the East Yorkshire Regiment [did they use A/A collars]
or just an earlier version of the first?

Any ideas appreciated
Gordon

The Prince of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire was formed on 25th April, 1958 by the amalgamation of the West Yorkshire Regiment (The Prince Of Wales's Own) and the East Yorkshire Regiment (The Duke of York's Own) so both had a good few years to introduce annodised collar badges?

You are indeed correct when you refer to the Regular army.

However the TA 4th Battalion the East Yorkshire Regiment survived until January 1961 when they amalamated with the 5th Battalion the West Yorkshire Regiment to form the 3rd Battalion the Prince of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire, first parading in Pocklington (East Yorkshire) on the 19th of February that year.

I personally belive that both versions of the collar are specifically PWO because the pattern of Brunswick star is far removed from the bi-metal East Yorkshire Regiment collar badge (admitably that did have variations like the cap badge, but I have not seen either in bi-metal resamble the style of the flat AA collar and I have a fair few different examples). Secondly the flat AA version closley resembles the PWO printed Brunswick star used at the inception of the Regiment - new badges for a new Regiment.

I was told that one of them belonged to the Duke of York's Royal Military School, but I forget which one.

Thanks for the info.

Think I will temporarily put both down as PWO until it can be shown otherwise

Marc,

If its either it will be the thin flat one as I can personally vouch that the deeper collars were worn by myself in 1 PWO.

Cheers,

Marcus
