OTC university page
Chris,is the Liverpool UOTC on the web page the same size as the Kings(Liverpool) badge on the infantry page? If it is the we need another slot for the larger version of the badge. There is an image of this badge on the following page http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ead.php?t=1589.
Also on the university page, does the Birmingham badge labelled Birmingham University have a blank bottom scroll ? The UTC version says UTC in the bottom scroll, the silver version doesnt have a bottom scroll and OTC version says OTC as shown. These are the 3 versions mentioned in K&K,although only the silver version is stated as "also anodised".Ive never come across the other version. Suprisingly Queens Belfast dont have any pipers anymore,so the silver badge is now defunct. On the School page,Gordon school also exists as a silver badge worn by pipers.I will post you the image as soon as.Although they still have piper i dont know if they still wear a silver badge |

I've never really seen one of these. I note a date on one of 1971 - does anyone know what the first sealed pattern date for anodised aluminium badges was. Might be a good thread starter. Regards Chris |

Peter has allowed me to examine these cards. The SP dated 1971 is actually for the Lpl Univ OTC badge (after all, the regt ceased to exist 13 years before !)
The AA SP card that P and I really want to see is that for the QC Liverpool Irish. It was probably sold off from Didcot with others - if anyone knows of its whereabouts, please get in touch, we'd love a photograph of it - thanks. |

Looks like we are OK with providing slots for all combination of badges here. I believe that OTCU4B and OTCU4D are the same except the former is gold and the latter silver. If anyone knows different please let us know. Regards Chris |

Gurkha cap badges
Hi Chris,
Glad to hear your knee op went well - heres a couple of gurkha badges to put in your album which are not yet photographed for evidence. They are - Gurkha Boys Company J.R Gaunt London * Queen's own Gurkha Transport Regiment. J.R Gaunt B'ham * Please note that the Q.O.G.T.R cap badge is in anodised aluminium and is NOT listed in Peter's book. Regards Colin |

Are you certain that the QOGTR badge is anodised aluminium and not anodised metal?

Staybrite Pioneer Corps with Kings crown ????
Here is an oddity which, from memory my father picked up at Barrowland market in Glasgow in the mid 1980's for a few pence. The origins of this are totally beyond me as I can't comprehend how this could be in existance. Surely it cannot be 10- 15 years ahead of it's time. The slider is brass and rivetted on and is stamped with the words Grove mfg B'ham. It definitely isn't a painted bakelite example, as there are a couple of scuff marks around the crown, showing it is anodised. No doubt this will attract a few comments.

Queens own Gurkha Transport Regt staybrite
Hi 54 Bty,
Yes this is an anodised aluminium cap badge. This staybrite was made by J.R Gaunt B'ham as per piccy. Usually this badge was made in heavy silver & gilt and made by Firmin London for the Q.o.G.T.R. I believe around the time the Regiment was formed J.R Gaunt B'ham had been taken over by Firmin London so I guess only a few staybrites may have been made and then Firmin supplied their new better quality silver & gilt badges. The old Gaunt staybrites may well have ended up back in the melting pot? As I'm sure you are aware this is not in Peter's collecting anodised badges book as are a few others. It's another one to collect I'm afraid! Regards. Colin |
