RN Armband
Hi All, can anyone tell me what the pictured armband was used for? I know it was used by "Seaborne" Royal Observer Corps Aircraft Spotters on D Day in WW2 but who else/what else was it used for? My one is definitely newer than WW2 and quite small, more like a wristlet than an armband. Any ideas?

RN Armband
Tony
These have been the topic of debate for many years. Basically they seem to have been worn by any naval personnel sent ashore to undertake virtually any role! They simply served to denote that they were RN. I think they originally dated back to the 1930s. I know that they were often worn by landing partys. I think that they continued to be worn for identification purposes until well into the 1960s. Pete |
