Hello Allison,
No, I don't, in fact, for me to buy a badge these days is actually quite unusual in itself, but, I do think Keith is right in his observation. Regards Frank |

LOL, well, my thoughts would be simply that you have lots of time, so don't try and run before you can walk, also, try and focus on something in particular, does not really matter in anyway whatsoever, what the focal point might be and you can do that at the same time as maintaining a more general collection too.

Frank, everyone has told me to slow down I don't do slow.
I am more focused than I used to be (ask Julian ) but I do go into Tigger mode and get carried away jumping from one thing to another. But hey I did say Tyneside Scottish this month didn't I? * she says after buying 3 Motto's and 2 RAC badges * Tomorrow, Tyneside Scottish. |

Focus: !? Talking about bankruptcy……. Alli - stay with the focus !!!
Jennens were founded in 1800 and by 1912 they were a Limited Company. Heavy losses were incurred after the 1st World War when the demand for badges and buttons plummeted. By July 1924 Jennen’s creditors procured an order to wind up the company. On 8th July 1925 Gaunt completed the balance of purchase of the company. Yes, their products were a byword for excellence. As far as I know - they only produced officer's badges. Items marked J&Co will have been produced before 1924/5. Thereafter, such was the esteem that Gaunt – who inherited and used original J&Co dies – specifically marked their products as “Gaunt late Jennens”. It is quite clear to me that Gaunt also used Jennens dies without any markings as well. There is ample evidence for the activity of J&CO; Pattern books in NAM and at BMAG (within Gaunts archives) and details of their take over in Board of Trade archives (TNA and Bham Ref Liby) . Ticker Riley and I have done quite a bit of work on J&Co ! I’m lucky to have various J&Co badges which are some of the most beautiful in my (KLR) collection. J&Co mark on general officers shoulder board device. Sadly part of a mismatched pair.

I collect Jennens & Co, can't go past the quality. Sadly they are not that easy to find in Australia and the current currency rates have make it less attractive to purchase from overseas. However, they do come up every now and then. This MGC example arrived in the post today, not a scarce badge but I believe another true gem.
