I'm assuming they wore the stripes on the back to be more readily identified by soldiers to the rear? Colin

Were these battalion patches worn in lieu of battalion insignia such as metal shoulder titles? Colin

Colin,
Battalion patches were worn in conjunction with metal or slip on cloth S/Ts. |

Thanks for all your replies!
I've just ordered "British Battle Insignia: 1914-18" (At the same time I also ordered "Cavalry and Yeomanry Badges of the British Army 1914: An Illustrated Reference Guide for Collectors | Hardback") 20 Euros for both including postage, brand new from play.com. I think that's quite good! Colin

So the colour of the 165th Bde signs is green and not pale blue, as the print seems to suggest? |

Hello Lettman,
Yes it should be green-the photo is not the best -sorry. I have replaced the missing stripes on the back of my 6th Kings officers tunic as best I can using modern cloth ( using the marks left by the originals as templates. The regimental arm badges worn by the 2/6th Battalion were green diamonds which ( probably the same or a smilar shade ) are also shown in the photos, these being original examples. Peter

Great to see, Peter -- many thanks. Always good to clear up what the original shades of colour were from existing examples!
