Can any of you identify this for me and give an approximate date of use?

Many thanks,

Andy

Altho the leaf on the badge appears to be a maple leaf I dont feel this is an RCN rate badge.

I have seen similar badges for a CGIT (Canadian Girls in Training) or some other girls organization.

Hi mate,
It could be Canadian navy Administrative Writer, Pay Writer, Ship's Writer, or Financial Clerk, I would guess it to be from about the 1970s-1980s? as it has the maple leaf, during WW2 the canadian navy wore almost the same trade badges as the U.K., and didn't change until they added a small maple leaf above the trade in the 1950's
Hope this helps

Definitely not a Canadian navy badge from the 70's-80's. Bryan will know better than me, but IIRC Canadian badges does not have the other device superimposed on the maple leaf. The leaf stands alone.

I'm with Bill here - got to thinking about this today whilst "on the road pickin" ------ I was thinking about Scouts -Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts??? ..... or Girl's equivalent(I think) CGIT - - thats a good possibility.

I had a girlfriend in CGIT back in '50's & I am d***d sure they wore a white & blue uniform as I recall, perhaps their badges were blue (on white) also -- any CGIT experts on board???????

Its definitely not RCN - no way it even comes close to RCN rate badges in any era.

Bryan

found a couple shots of the GCIT middy but could not locate any insignia.

Thanks everyone,

I had never even heard of CGIT before today. I only assumed RCN because it is similar in construction to RN No 8's badges and had the Maple Leaf on it.

yes Andy the post 1950 RCN rate/trade badges had a maple leaf as part of their design but the maple leaf was always at the top of the badge, nothing was superimposed on it.

below is an example .....

& yes, also CGIT may be a longshot, I dont really know, its just a thought.....

BM - Its definitely not CANADIAN Sea Cadets -- their badges were identical to the RCN rate & rank badges but they were white embroided on a black field.

example below............

I am pretty certain that the Sea Scouts had triangular shaped badges.
