Default Earl Mountbatten Memorial Branch

Saw this blazer badge and thought it would be a good addition to my collection.

"The Earl Mountbatten Memorial Branch was first established in May 1980 in memory of Lord Louis Mountbatten, following his death in August 1979 in Ireland."

I was very aware of Earl Mountbattens death as my tour of N.I started a couple of month later in November 1979.

Just realised it couldn't be penny , in 'old money' (pre 1971) one penny would be 1d.

As there is no info about which area it came from , possibly the "P" is for the branch ?

Recently got another one which shows that at least in some branches these were "beer tokens" .

Default RBL Collection Boxes

Bought a little Poppy Appeal money box a couple of month ago as a bit of fun.

Over the past 2 weeks I have added three RBL collection boxes to my ever growing RBL memorabilia.

1. A Poppy Royal British Legion Benevolent Fund Money / Collection Box . 1978-1983.
(This is the second version with Thank You label and alteration in the money slot, to take a rolled-up note.)

2. A Royal British Legion Lion Money/Collection Box: “A CARING FORCE FOR THE FUTURE”. c1995.

3. Poppy Appeal Money/Collection Box and small money box/bank. (Probably 2000 +).

Thanks to Alistair and Dave for their help in finding these items , much appreciated.

This has been a very interesting thread, and some really nice badges/pins shared. I am assuming he British Legion is like the American Legion over here?

The British Legion was formed on 15 May 1921, bringing together four national organisations of ex-Servicemen that had established themselves after the First World War:

The National Association of Discharged Sailors and Soldiers
The British National Federation of Discharged and Demobilized Sailors and Soldiers
The Comrades of The Great War
The Officers' Association

A great addition to your collection Mike - well done.

I am looking forward to seeing the collectors guide to RBL insignia that you must be in a position to write

Exclamation Upsize !

Back in January I picked up a plain RBL Commemorative coin , used for coin tosses in 2018 football matches played during Remembrance week.

Last week I spotted and bought an enamelled one (didn't pay much attention) , well it arrived today and turns out to be a limited edition larger version. It is the same as the coin sized one with "100 years on football remembers" engraved around the rim.

Thumbs up Great find !

Saw a job lot of BL badges but thought they were 'basic' ones I already had but then gave them a second/closer look. There was a nice minature screw pin one plus a very badly damaged "For Merit" badge , as the second is pretty rare I bought the lot.

When they arrived I was reasonably happy , there were also a couple of 'T.A' ones and six of the smaller basic BL ones which were headed for the spares/swaps box.

For some reason I decided to check makers marks/numbers and got a surprise , one of them had a "JRG&S" makers mark .......and a hallmark!

Can't make out details of hallmark but it is definitely a gold member award badge (more about award in another post).

Am very happy with my little job lot and will definitely double check all listings/badges in future.
