Default Rifle Brigade and Hackney Volunteer Corps

Good evening.

Apologies for the sideways pictures, I'm having a 'mare with the tech stuff tonight.

Both of these items were amongst a number of badges in a tin a relative purchased a couple of days ago.

First question: Please can anyone assist with the following Rifle Brigade badge, who would have worn it, made for a specific event etc.
IMG_2134.jpg

As can be seen it is the pre 1903 variety, however it has red enamelling on the Guelphic Crown and blue and white enamelling covering other areas.

Both lugs are missing, having converted to a brooch fitting, albeit the pin is missing.

Second question: also on my desk, I have a badge, one of which is the Subject of a thread dated 8.10.11, (apologies I have tried to attach the link but failed miserably), Hackney Volunteer Corps.

I have read the thread and do realise that it is a scarce and very expensive badge.

I am satisfied it is a genuine item and wondering if anyone can give a rough estimate of the value.

Many thanks in advance.

Brian.

I’ve rotated the pics for your Brian, hope you’re keeping well.

Link to the thread you mentioned here.

Re the Rifle Brigade I expect the enamelling and pin were done for wear as an attractive sweetheart brooch.

To the Hackney VTC, lovely badge, I would expect is worth some way north of £100.

A P.S. I forgot to add on the original post is I'll talk my sister into selling these badges.

Default Hackney VC

Brian,

Just to echo other's comments, Hackney is rare, but not super-rare. Bosleys have sold a few in the last several years, somewhere between £150 and £170 if my records are accurate...

Two rarer badges, Swindon VTC and Wednesbury VTC, were up on Noonan's yesterday, and went for £300+ and £460 respectively. Eye watering!

Best regards,

Tim

Many thanks for the replies Chaps.

I'll have a word with my sister and see what she wants to do with the Hackney VTC and hopefully offer it on here.

Regards.

Default Walsall VTC

My mistake!

Simon is quite right, it was Walsall, and the hammer went down at £360...
