Default King's Own Royal Regiment - but what?

All,

Would appreciate some further identification on this badge, please.

The badge is 23mm x 31mm, die cast, and lugged EW. It looks as if it were gilded at one time, but most of this has rubbed off. Is it a collar; it seems collar sized?

It is clearly KORR, but the only other KORR badges I can find are the Lion with a voided "The King's Own" underneath. I had understood that this lion was repeated on their collars?

It almost categorically dates to WW1, with both the cypher and the makers mark (Lambourne) confirming this.

Thanks, all!

Tim

Possibly related to Norfolk Yeomanry (The King's Own Royal Regiment).

Default Norfolk Yeomanry?

Thanks, Tim.

I hadn't even though of them, but you could be spot on!

A brief search of the www for Norfolk Yeomanry collars hasn't produced any pictures of collars, but I did find a button that is very much the same design.

Let's hope that some of the Norfolk experts can confirm.

Best regards,

Tim

I agree with GGA and suspect a NY connection.

A very interesting badge.

Reminiscent perhaps of another small die cast Yeomanry badge of yet unidentified use…

Thanks, Luke;

Indeed, very reminiscent, although the F&FY is big enough to be a cap badge, which is probably why it features in K&K. This is definitely more collar sized.

The smaller Lovat Scouts, KK1498, is another Lambourne stamped die-cast badge in the same mould (not literally, obviously!)

Best regards,

Tim

Hi Tim, it’s not one I have seen before, and I don’t think it’s going to be the Norfolk yeomanry.

You’ve reminded me as I had forgotten. Keith Hook had a wholly solid Lovat Scouts in his collection, similar to KK1498, marked Lambourne.

Highly doubt it will be a collar, other ranks in the Norfolk Yeomanry did not wear collars on khaki service dress. The collar worn by officers and SNCOs was the Royal coat of arms with a scroll below reading ‘The King’s Own Royal Regiment’.

Officers and bandmaster did wear a gilded GvR monogram on the collar of the frock coat before the war.

I shall ask Keith Hook, he has a particular interest in and is very knowledgeable on the Norfolk Yeomanry.

Thank you, Gentlemen.

NRM,

I suspect you've seen it, but there is a button on eBay at the moment being sold by a serious button dealer identified as "Norfolk Yeomanry (The Kings Own Royal Regiment). The design is very similar to my badge.

As the picture is widely available on the www, I will reproduce it here. Does it open up any possibilities?

Luke,

I very much look forward to what Keith Hook might say.

Best regards,

Tim

Hi Luke,
I put my HMS 1916 version of this F&F Y badge by Lambourne on the Forum a few months ago as the Cheesecutter cap badge which is what I was told it was. Hope this helps. Denis
