Default button - 79th Pictou Cameron Highlanders?

A recent addition to my collection is this button numbered 79.
It is white metal, 22 mm, b/m Harrison & Smith, Birmingham
Various sources: founded 1875, merged into Buttons Limited in 1907.

It is in two early books:

G. Squire, Buttons a Guide for Collectors, plate 23, no 3.
"The 79th (Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders) Regiment - Other Ranks greatcoat button, mid 1850's.

E. Vickers-Smith, Uniform Buttons, Enfield Arsenal Manual Mark 1, Plate 26, row 2, No 1.
"79th Cameron Highlanders of Canada"

I assume Mrs. Squire misunderstood the information and put the button in her British section.
What about the 79th Cameron Highlanders of Canada?
