From a crossbelt to the 13th Hussars . From a set of 2 worn below the prickers,theres also 2 above the pricker plate and one above and below the clover leaf boss that holds the other end of the chains. Each scroll carries a different battle honour.

Interesting item. If it helps, the "Sevastopol" battle honour is struck, whereas the silver backing plate is hand-engraved. You probably knew this anyway.... What appear to be shamrocks could well be that but they may also be an ivy type leaf, common as a "filler" in a lot of decorative engraving. It also puts me in mind of items I saw at markets in France when I was there, last century! |
