Welsh Hussar....????
Hi All
WHAT IS THE COLLAR BADGE? It appears to "look like" the RWF cap badge but the POWs are within a wreath, on a fusil.... I think? Trooper Willie Harris Williams from Denbigh, North Wales. (Died of wounds in the Great war, also gassed) This is not the uniform of the Denbighshire Hussars.

A uniform to the Royal North Devon Yeomanry might give the answer to the above..... but the frogging is not the same and it also looks yellow and not white?

Good morning Griff.
You sure it's not Denbigh as red/white hackle and probable red flap to the hat. The frogging and Austrian knots are different in the first photo and the second. Possible explanation why he maybe wearing RWF badges as collars is that in 1917 they became the 24th bn of the RWF when in Palestine before moving back to France. Jonathan |

Hi Jonathan
Well ...... I would like to think it is DHY.... but the frogging, lines and boss is certainly yellow. The DHY Hussars jacket is not the same as shown in post #1. The DHY were Blue/Red/White in their colours... see the DHY example below (held in Wrexham). It might be a case of wearing a regular Regiments Hussars kit, but those collars are a real mystery.... and they do have POWs feathers on them, especially as the photo is pre Great War?

Griff.
A mystery it is ?? Isn't the latest photo an officers jacket. Where did you get the troopers name from as you could check him out in the Soldiers who died in Great War (RWF edition). Keep the investigation going. Jonathan |

Nothing solid for a W H Williams has come up on WGC..... for DHY. 5 pages worth but mostly other Welsh regiments. I only have his name and how he died..... no specific date either.
The MIC shows 2 pages of possibles..... but they dont show the Regt next to the name anymore and I am fed up of paying for guessing !! ** The DHY jacket is an Other Ranks.

Griff,
I would post as much as you know on The Great War Forum and see what members there can come up with. Peter
