Mystery DS or SD title badge
Hi All,
Can anyone identify this badge please. I had thought it was for a school but the lugs indicate that it may be military. Thanks, Tinto |

Driscoll's Scouts
Hi Dave,
Thankyou for solving this mystery. Looking on the internet, I have come across pictures of another Driscoll's Scouts badge, the one that has the full name. Was one worn before the other, or were they worn at the same time? I gather there were not that many men in this unit. Cheers, Tinto |

The unit highest total number of men was 422 aroung 1901. War raised unit of volunteers fighting on the British side. There were possibily 3 types of badges worn. The one you have, one with the name Driscoll over a large 'S' in brass and a Maid of Erin harp badge which may of been worn as a slouch hat badge at one time. Nice to get anything to these. Thanks for your comments, Jack and Dave.
This DS badge was languishing in my Miscellaneous/Unknowns section. It's good that it has been finally recognised. If only it could talk! Cheers, Tinto |
