I bought this on a car boot sale, the seller was a general dealer who also had some other IOM items for sale such as tie pins etc.
I first thought it was a VTC badge, but another collector has made enquiries for me with someone who specialises in VTC items and he thinks it is a badge worn by the 7th Btn Kings Liverpool up to 1920. Can any Kings collectors corroborate this answer? Rob Last edited by Alan O; 25-11-18 at 10:00 AM. |

Rob, if you bought this at 'car boot sale' price - then you got a bargain.
However, it has nothing to do with the King's Liverpool Regiment. It is a VTC badge - it was authorised in 1915 but I don't think it was worn for very long (I have some notes on this thing somwhere which I'll try and find for you). There is some confusion with the 7th Vol Bn KLR and the 7th Bn KLR - ie TF Bn. The 7th (IoM) Volunteer Battalion did wear a similar badge between 1908 and 1920 (when it was disbanded. When the Territorial Force (which absorbed the former Volunteer Corps) was raised in Great Britain, the operations of the Act establishing it were not extended to the Isle of Man. Thus the 7th VB continued because there were no TF units there. Here are the 7th VB cap badges (OSD and OR badges - and the IoM Vols (which I've now moved on because it wasn't strictly part of KLR). They were probably made by Firmin. (I'm afraid the differing lighting was because it is a composite image) |

IOM Vols
Julian,
I was hoping that you could point me in the right direction on this badge, many thanks for your answer, I was on the right track thinking it was a VTC badge. The fact you say it was not worn for long is one of the things that I noticed about this badge being in almost mint condition, apart from a very small spot of veredegris near a loop on the right. IOM Vols.
Simon,
One of the good things about this forum is we have some great knowledge from collectors who specialise in certain Regiments, Peter has not added to this thread yet, but Julian is also another member whose knowledge and research is first class. Rob Last edited by Sonofacqms; 20-11-18 at 06:54 PM. |

My book on badges of the Kings Liverpool Volunteers and Territorials may not be the best badge book ever written but it does answer ( I hope ) a lot of questions on badges worn by the different battalions and a copy is free to any Forum member who would like a copy and sends me his E mail address by PM.
P.B.
