WELSH (6th) CAP BADGE WITH SOUTH AFRICA SCROLL
Jerry.
Here you go a Welsh South Africa scroll cap badge on blades (was the C.O of the 6th Welsh badge, removed it from his cap). There is an or's version of this out there (only ever seen one mind you in 60 years) Also added a picture of one of my frames for the Welsh. Best I can do at the mo' will have to get the frame out again. I know the top one is hallmarked silver around 1910/11, but will have to ask the oldman. Jonathan DSC00583 (1).jpg |

Andy, as an RSM said to Robin Hodges when he was putting 'British Army Badges' together, "You'll never get them all, sir." Maybe not, but we can all try. That's part of the fun of collecting - the thrill of the chase.
By the way, didn't Hodges say he was going to do another book 10 years later, which would reflect the latest changes? The original came out in 2005, so if he's actually doing it, it should be out this year. David |

Diolch Jonathan..... is there any bronze left in the back of the brass one? Give it a scrub with a toothbrush and washing up liquid in the back
BTW..... did Jennens & Co put a makers mark on this one? I would guess that its on the scroll if there is one ....a simple "J&Co"

No makers mark on reverse. Some views/angles. May put some Dendigh stuff up on the weekend (don't get to exicted as only got about 15 items). Jonathan. DSC00645.jpgDSC00642.jpgDSC00650.jpgDSC00653.jpgDSC00654.jpgDSC00656.jpg |

Those J&Co feathers look fairly typical I have attached a post 1924 when Gaunt used the die(s). "J R GAUNT LONDON LATE JENNENS" Looking forward to the DHY stuff....

Griff,
I agree wholeheartedly with regard to the pattern of the badge falling to J&Co, here are some comparisons of mine;- The first four are all Gaunt marked examples and have the typical narrower and more upright crown style amongst others, but perhaps the biggest tell tale is the difference in size which can be seen with two J&Co marked 'C' spelling examples set either side of a contemporary Gaunt example.
