Seen these Indian on a dealers site
Spotted these...do they look ok?..and would they have been worn by 156 who were raised in India?
I'm really out of my depth here so depending on the forum...if anyone needs research done regarding Belfast then feel free to drop me a line... Mark |

In India the battalion was named 151 (P) Bn., so to answer your second question very strictly; no, as 156th Bn. was never part of the Indian Army. The Battalion was only named 156th on arrival in the Middle East on 20 november 1942. For security reasons they were renamed 20th Queens Regt. Bn. during their move from 30 October 1942, so on paper there isn't even a direct continuity between the two.
Photo's of 151st Bn. in India don't show the wearing of this or any other formation sign. I think the sign came into use later. Rgds, Thomas. Last edited by fougasse1940; 17-07-11 at 05:38 PM. |

They came into use when 152, 153 7 154 become 'Indian Parachute Regt' in March 1945. At the same time they adopted the maroon beret and a badge based on the para reg. Used until 1947 and a bit beyond. 156 took a lot of casulties at Arnham including their CO and were disbanded in 44.
