Today I saw those two variations.
The first one must be a fake as the head of the person is glued to the wing and the spear. The second is such a weird cheap one. |

They are both fake. The first one clearly shows synthetic thread to the rear.

Both totally spurious. If you're in the market for an original patch, my advice would be to focus on glue-backed examples as they are more typical of wartime construction but it's not an absolute guarantee of authenticity!

Hi Team
I checked my lot. I have 4 x showing leg and 1 x no leg showing. All are paste backed. Good to know how to ID a private purchase Pegasus. cheers Phill |

Nice lot, Phil. Thanks for sharing.
It is amazing the variety of design for these private purchase Pegasus. What is even more striking is the similarities between your first patch and one of mine. Pegasus together.jpg I wouldn't be surprised that they came from the same maker. |

Hi Tc
It would be interesting to find the templates and the type of loom these were made on. Im guessing that private purchase tailor, who could of had one loom in use as opposed to a larger factory with more? Here is the reverse, check the embroidery and paste. Phill |

Very interesting chaps.
Yeah they look very similar just a few microscopic minor differences. Love to see some horse have an eye some not. Also different mouth. Could you post the back of the others Phill ? Cheers |

Pegasus together.jpg They are certainly good examples of early embroidered Pegasus. |

Here's my other patch which I think is an early one. The felt is particularly thick vs my other patch. 1st Embroidered Patch.jpg Last edited by tcrown; 06-11-22 at 05:14 PM. |

The cherry examples are quite remarkable of high-quality embroidered patches with cotton backing, made for officers. They were clearly made following AB Corps HQ directives in early 1944. They are usually associated with the embroidered Airborne strip with serif lettering and could have been proposed as a private purchase full set. By mid-1944, it was decided that the Airborne strips were no longer required. One can surmised this was a short-lived set. I would be curious to know if anyone knows the name of the manufacturer involved. These are certainly not common on the market. |

Hi TC
The black are remnants of black paper possibly at one stage glued to a scrapbook. It also uses black bobbin return thread. I would like to know the loom these were embroidered on and the punch or template used, as you can see there are multiple variations. Jerry's dark blue variant is different to the rest, possibly handmade(?) and Luc's woven example another odd ball variant. Hopefully more examples will turn up. cheers Phill |
