Really informative thread chaps!
For interests sake, my RN wings as discussed above and examples of the RAF red on stone tropical uniform badges - these were my Dads, worn in Malaya during the emergency in the 50's.(off topic I know, but just as an illustration of the style) Regards all Bess |

Hi Bess
Thanks for showing the red on stone tropical badges and dating them with your Dads service in the 50's malayan emergency. Good stuff. Phill |

A temporary AMO of 1963 introduced the following badge:-22H/1410 Badge, arm, parachutist, with wings. The badge was to be worn on the sleeve of Nos 1, 2 and 6(tropical) dresses and on combat or parachutist protective clothing.
Subsequently a standing AMO of 1964 which lists of badges of blue/grey and red embroidery shows only the above mentioned badge in issue, with no mention of red embroidered badge whatsoever |

Thanks Ray
Appreciate the input. Would be interesting to see the differance between a 1963-1972 and post 1972 wing. cheers Phill |

Dress Regulations for Airmen and Airwomen promulgated in 1965 and again in 1970 describe the above mentioned badge as follows "The Parachute badge (with wings) depicts an open parachute flanked by a pair of wings. The parachute is embroidered in white and the wings in light blue a a shaped blue-grey background"
Later regulations in 1973 alter the above description as follows "on a shaped dark blue background" |
