Scots GDS lug positions

Are the position of the lugs significant date wise. All my Sots Gds badges have left to right position, this one has north to south lugs. Is this indicative of an early Victorian badge as are some others or a manufacturer's variant? Just wondered if I can put it on my early badges card. Think I have got lucky with the Kings R Regt badge, it has polished up as silver I think.
