Could I please get your thoughts about the authenticity of this cap badge?

Pretty sure its fine. As the design didn't change for some 80 years and the 2GR were transferred to the British Army - the badges were pretty common and inexpensive and as such not really worth reproducing - unlike the badges to the 6 Gurkha regiments that transferred to the Indian army - copies of those proliferate on ebay and dealers sites but are easily spotted.
