A Question of Uniformity: explanations for the variance in ARP and CD insignia

Despite being a single force, with specific instructions for the use and wearing of insignia, photos reveal a hotchpotch of usage by the ARP and CD services - why was this? I examine the reasons, with a specific, unusual, case study here:
