A friend has this metal badge along with a 1914-8 British War Medal, and would like to know what the badge is. The medal belonged to his grandfather who was in the RASC during WW1, but possibly in the regular army before then.
We believe it is possibly a trade / proficiency sleeve badge. I have scoured the internet looking for an answer, but to no avail. I did find a picture of it on Australian website saying that it was a Light Machine Gunner (LMG) Qualification Badge – 1930 to 1942. However, that date does not fit as the chap was born in 1864, and I believe the lettering on the badge looks more like "L R" than "L G" as the Light Machine Gunners had on their cloth badges. Any help would be gratefully accepted. Thank you, |

Hello jayarem, welcome to the Forum. Your account is active and open for posts.
The badge may be LG for Lewis Gunner.

Its a Light Machine Gunners arm badge from Australia. It appears failry modern so nothing to do with the man born in 1864. Your information on the badge is correct
