Sealed pattern Numbers
Was going through some files this evening and though that attached photo with SPN details for the Guards Machine Gun forage cap badges is 1917 might be of interest.
Note badge for Sgts and Rank & File is specified with vertical shank and German Silver (white metal ) Officers badge, loops and pin , silver and enamel. Unusual to see officers badges sealing details in the RACD register. From WO359 Vol 16 p58 John |

Is this a good guards machine gun badge
Hi all
Been offered a few items and one of them is this guards machine gun badge. What are your thoughts. Is it genuine and what are they going for these days? Thanks in advance Bc |

Bc,
Has it a slider or lugs? It looks like lugs, which is not a good sign. Eddie |

As Eddie says, if it has lugs it's probably a reproduction! A good example will cost IRO £75.

I'd say OK from that pic. But the gold braze is now being used to fake.

Simon,
I suspect most of the reproduction badges doing the rounds, have been in circulation for a good few years! Very few are new so to speak and those that are, lack any age what so ever! I'd replace "Now" with "Has"! Andy |

The modern braze has a very light and shiny look to it and is normally used in tiny anounts. The period braze tends to be more thickly applied and is, generally, much duller in appearance. I would say the braze in the picture looks period.

The bent slider may be down to genuine or "fake attempt" showing that it was removed from a souvenir belt, a so-called "hate belt"?
I've come across them before, the vendor stating removed from belt. |

Just helped this badge enter the UK. Hope I've not brought in an 'illegal' and that it has come home to its place of birth.

Thanks Andy- case where the seller despatches through a third party-so two separate charges totalling $27.01.
So postage was more than the badge- but in this case worth it. Is there a link to Paypal's exchange rates? Cheers, Paul. Just checked my credit card transactions-total for badge £16.67. Still can't find a currency converter on Pay Pal. Last edited by wardog; 07-06-14 at 04:21 PM. |

This looks good to me but any suggestions why a broach fitting?
Normally I would say it was so it could be fitted to a pagri but did the GMGC serve in hot places? Thanks, Ivan |

Ivan, to my eyes there is a very clear scar at the top where a slider has been (neatly) removed. Thus the brooch fittings were, as usual, a secondary addition. J
