Default DLI Shoulder Badge question

I got a nice AA job lot of DLI badges as I was looking for a shoulder title to add to a frame I was making up (on the green backing)

Amongst the badges were a pair of AA bugles. My question is, would these be worn with an AA Durham or DLI shoulder title as I have never seen one? Or are they something else?

Also, is there such a thing as an AA button I could get to add to the frame too?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Regards, Bill

Bill, nice little set. There are - as you would expect with A/A badges - variations on makers marks etc. Especially scarce is the made black example ( mine unfortunately is one I found just painted - so it looms large on my wants list).

There are 2 types of collar die - feel free to pm me as I have spares if you wanted to expand your DLI family.

The stringed bugles I have as 'Bugle Major' badges and come in facing pairs.

The gold example is the genetic army bugler qualificatipn however.

Hope thats of interest mate. The DLI badges are a particular favourite of mine with a fine regimental history.

Bess

I think my black one might be the factory produced one. Firmin London mark.

What version of collars do I have Bess? 1st or 2nd? I'd be interested in the other version, if Bill (Snowdrop) doesn't want first dibs. I'll email you later today to see if you have any spares.

Cheers
Mark

The collars appear to me to be the 2nd pattern .
There is a void between the D and the L. I have 3 different pairs :- DL non void,DL void and the 3rd has the void and the lug on the back of the crown rather than on the letters.

The black badge appears to be factory black,i have one too
Im looking for a.blank slidered ano DLI badge.

Mark, yes - you have what I call the 2nd pattern (thicker lettering etc). There are lug variations x2 of the 'first type'.

The black one you have looks ok but difficult to tell. Some badges are found painted with armourers weapon paint, which is extremely hard when dry. I've never held a made black one in my hand, so I dont know what makers mark they have. If its good, its a relatively scarce badge.

I believe they wore the generic Light Infantry anodised button. Silver with a corded bugle horn( like an Ox and Bucks LI badge).

The shoulder title is also found in white metal.

Gents,

Thanks for your input about the DLI lot I got.

Bess, I wasn't aware there was different versions of the collars. I'll have to have a look at the ones I've got to see if they're all the same. I too have a soft spot for the DLI as my uncle was in them in WW2 and I have his original badge.

I also wasn't aware of the black anodised beret badge, another one on my wants list along with a LI button to add to my frame.

Thanks again guys for the help with this one.

Bill

Bill, I have a single 2nd pattern collar, yours for the asking mate. PM me if you'd like it.
