A.A.C Cap Badge - Any good?
I’ve just picked up this AAC badge which has seen better days and was wondering whether the badge is an original (other than the likely modification of adding a slider to the back).

Looks like it's a metal Detecting find from the colour and the fact the lugs and braze have come off and with a newly attached home made slider, I think this is an early issue badge but others on here are much more knowledgeable than me.

As already stated the badge is the early voided pattern and is probably genuine assuming it's white metal.
These badges originally had lugs. Jack. |

Thank you, both. Great to know the badge is an original.

Yes it is an original early voided crown pattern.
It could do with a bit of a clean up though, and it would look much better if the slider was replaced for the original lugs. |

Thanks for further confirmation as to it’s validity.
I must say that in some respects I prefer a gnarly old badge such as this compared to a mint, unissued specimen. Where or when it was dug up / found is now lost to time but it still holds a certain something. |

It certainly does Mike, and I would never consider modifying a badge in a condition that was the result of it's normal service life. However, with this badge I do not believe that is the case so I see no probem in trying to restore it.

Apart from its been in the ground, and it would have been better to have left it in its found condition rather than adding an obviously home made new slider.
