Default SAAF helmet Finial..another version?

Guys

I have a photograph unfortunatly cannot publish it without the owners consent, of a different SAAF finial to the "art deco" Springbok version. It is more like a swooping eagle with it's claws holding onto a marble sized ball. It is not mush larger than the "art deco" finial.

Can anyone shed some light on this version which is reputedly rather rare?

Brian

Hi Brian
1st pattern worn 1924 -1934 and very hard to find as you say.
2nd pattern adopted 1934/5 and worn to c.1939/40

I also have a picture that I found on the net somewhere. I think it was of the War Museum display of SAAF insignia. Not sure whether I can post it here either.

I think this is the one you were talking about. It was on ebay a while back so I am sure you can post the picture up here. Every now and again one pops up, I hope to find one some time.
