Default Post Independence - Indian & Pakistan Armoured Corps Badges

Hey Guys,

Here's my collection of post independence - Indian & Pakistan Armoured Corps Badges and some of my spares (wooden table top background in picture) (which includes some Bangladesh Armoured Corps titles).

Still have a few gaps so if anyone has any of the badges I'm missing would love to hear from you.

Mick

Nice to see. Looks a bit like a catalogue to see at least what should exist and for many how they look.

Informative even for people like me who are only after the images and not the real stuff.

Thanks for showing.

I also would recommend Ashok Nath's book "Izzat: historical records and iconography of Indian cavalry regiments, 1750-2007".

You will find pictures there of all these badges and many, many more.

Mick

Arctic Medals, Calgary, Canada has three modern badges: 2nd [IAC], 32nd and 24th. He is good to deal with - prompt and honest.

Default Cast Indian (?) badge

Mick, I looked at your 4 pics and do not see one that I have surplus. Mayb it’s the wrong country or era but it’s head on view of tracked veh. (Tank or other armoured veh.) backed by two cavalry style penants. Under the “tank” is the number 48 and under that is a scroll bearing the words PRESS ON. The penant lances extend past the scroll by approx. .5”. Any Ideas?

Maybe its Bangladeshi Armoured Corps? Just a guess. I can check my copy of Izzat and see if its mentioned in there.

What you describe is IMHO the 48th Cavalry of 1941-1947. A war raised unit of the (British) Indian Army and thus pre independence.

Yes, That’s the badge! Though I did not use a thousand, your picture speaks a thousand words! Thank you Henk and others who responded. David J.

The original '4X' regiments - 40th to 45th - were raised late in WWI and re-raised in WWII. The 45th, at least, saw service in Burma in WWII. The numbers and units 41 through 49 were reissued / reraised between 1980 and 1983. It appears that the 48th was re-raised in 1982 as part of the IAC and is headquartered at Meerut.

I am inclined to think that this badge is of the 'new' [post '82] 48th, based on the design and quality of the casting.

This is getting interesting

I found this one which is more likely to be the 1941-47 badge.

I labeled the earlier one as such, because I found it under that caption, but I tend to follow Peter in his suggestion.

BTW my information is that in WW1 the 40th - 46th were raised in 1918 (disbanded 1919-21) and in WW2 the 42nd - 48th in 1941 (disbanded 1943-47).
I have no idea why this partly overlapping numbering was chosen.
