Norfolk Yeomanry 1917
Hello does anybody know if the Norfolk Yeomanry continued to wear the GRV cap badge after 1917 when they became the 12th battalion of the Norfolk Regiment or were rebadged?

I don't know about the Norfolks for certain but when I have researched other yeomanry units, such as the F&F, they did re-badge on becoming an infantry battalion.

Norfolk Yeomanry
Thanks for responding Alan I’m struggling to find any of what I would call classic late war F&F images of the NY. They were late to go there (1918) having been in Egypt wearing Topees with their own Pagri flash. I suspect that they were rebadged but continued to wear the cypher (if they had them).

As I understand it. When the 1/1st Lancs hussars yeomanry was absorbed into the 18th Liverpool pals in 1917 they carried on wearing their cap badge and titles

As far as I know, the original 1908 badge of the N Yeo was 'Royal Coat-of Arms, with KORR' (1909 Territorial Yearbook, p. 265).
The WO was slow to admit Sealed Patterns for the TF and Yeo, but they got around to that in 1915 wherein the Norf Yeo had a Sealed Pattern 550/1915 (TNA WO 359/16, p28). In 1916/17 they reorganised the (4 digit) Patt nos - so that Norf Yeo had a badge defined as Patt 8948 (authorised 20-06-1916). The only badge worn by them in 1917 was Patt 1554A/1917 which turns out to be the 'all GM' version for the Norfolk Regt! When the TNA is opened again - we should be able to find the full story! best wishes Last edited by KLR; 15-05-20 at 05:25 AM. |

Apropos Yeomanry badges - were their puggaree badges (as in WANTED) authorised by the WO or were they privately ordered by the regiment ?
