Need information on Major G. MacDonald Gordon Highlanders WW1

Gordon's hall marked 1916 Edinburgh - retailed by Meyer and Mortimer London.
Named on back to "Major G. MacDonald"
I didn't realize how many MacDonalds served in Gordon's.
Any help on ID would be appreciated
