SAS Brass Slider
Hello,
I picked up this SAS Brass / Bronzed badge today. I'm hoping it is correct and genuine. As always - I'm grateful for your learned opinions. Kind regards, Sean

Sorry but it's not right. Whilst in the past the TA did wear metal badge on sliders, these were bimetal.
I remember you could buy these badges for £5 in a shop in Salisbury in the 1990s. They were made for collectors in my opinion. |

It looks to be the same or very similar to a badge my father bought me during a visit to Gaunt or Firmin's shop in London when I was a kid, around the 1969/70.

I have a couple of these and believe them to be older good quality re-strikes. They were made in bronzed or natural brass finish and there is a KC Para beret badge out of the same stable. The whole badge is hard brass and nicely struck with good symmetry, clear motto and slider on straight. (Unlike many re-strikes on eBay) Alan is correct, the early 1950s badges were bi-metal and produced with lugs or slider about the time of the Coronation. They were intended for 22 as 21, at that time, was wearing the M&M badge.
I've attached an image of the lugged and slidered bi-metal versions. The lugs are short and copper unlike the later gilt and silver lugged officers' badge. I have also included an all brass badge. I have always regarded the all brass badges as re-strikes but this one, intriguingly, appears to have come out of the same die as the other two. Check out the motto detail. Graham

The badge I referred to in post no. 4, originally bronzed.
The same as those mentioned as being available in the 1990's? A previous thread mentioning brass SAS badges: https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...hlight=Bronzed |
