Natal Mounted Rifles and Carbineers
I’ve come across an example of a KC variant of both a NMR and a NC badge online with three loops to the rear and an extra ring above the uppermost loop.
I’m presuming that this would be for use on a Slouch Hat in the same way as an early KC Natal Field Artillery badge. My question centres around whether such a ring actually existed on genuine KC NMR and NC badges or whether they are purely found on QVC badges?

I believe the upper ring was still present on Edwardian period KC badges to the Natal forces as worn on the slouch hat

Yes, definitely. Used until 1914 I think.

I would suggest absolutely original and as manufactured, can you show photographs?
